Weight Loss | August 23, 2005
Being married is great. And I also gained 7kg from 67kg to 74kg in a span of a year. This year, the journey to lose those kilos began. As of now, I am at 72kg. Still a ways to go, but it's showing good signs!

Hardcore Futsal Weekenders::
Now the boys and I play futsal (indoor soccer) over the weekends and Monday nights. Because of the crazy weather and terrible fields we have in Malaysia, futsal courts have mushroomed all over the Klang Valley. Many, like us have switched from the field to the courts.

Hah! Like many things in my life, football came to become my favorite team sport only in my late twenties. In the span of 6 years, I had played more football matches (friendlies) than I had in all my school and college years. Collected one major scar, a major injury, actually knew names of footballers who played in the EPL & World Cup (2002) and appeared had the balls to appear in a World Cup TV Commercial in 2002.

EL Ninos (the boys) ::
Back in 2001-2002, they were my boys. Friends I met on the football field,playing at random with the friends who were already 'fanning' the desire to play better football. It was a ragtag of a team. Ranging from the proficient to the clumsy players. Each with a strong personality attached.

It was a great experience for me as I became the manager/caretaker/slave of El Ninos. Strong personalities clash at their liking and losing increased the probability of that. But when we won, it was the height of ecstasy. Somehow, the boys and I were happy to have the team, regardless of the win or lost. Feels like every man magically transforms into a little boy in the field.

the TVC ::
It was a great day to play football. We travelled to UM to play in a Friendly. We played as usual and I cannot remember if we won. All I remember is that after the game, this guy came up to me and asked if I wanted to be in a TVC. The money was good enuff to motivate me.

The reason they chose me: Cos I looked Korean and I could play football (If you didn't know - The 2002 World Cup was held in Japan & Korea). 4 days of shooting, and a pocket full of cash later, I was the daily dose of commercialism during the month of the World Cup. Check it out --->

World Cup 2002 will forever be the most memorable World Cup for me. Brazil won. France sucked. England did well. Korea & USA surprised & impressed the world. And between every telecast of every match was the TVC with me in it. It was a good World Cup.

Blood & Scars ::

My opponent lay in a fetal position clutching his head as I stood over him. The referee gave a free kick against me. I looked up and protested because I headed the ball and my opponent headed my head! After a few seconds, the ref shook off his stare and signalled that there was bleeding across my face. Reluctantly, I jogged off to the sideline, wiping blood from my eyebrow.

At a nearby clinic I was given 9 stitches on my left eyebrow. Pretty good long scar. That was in 2002.
My wife says I wear my scars in pride. Which I admit, I do.
